A brief info on LGBT Tourism in Nepal

Promoting a Sexual Minority

Nepals sexual minority made history when they played host to a historic symposium on gay and lesbian tourism on Feb. 26 of 2011 to explore Nepal as a potential destination for the worlds estimated 670 million LGBTs {lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders} LGBTs, to known mischievously as 'Dinky' {"double income no kids"}, and are considered to be a roller coasting high-spending and a most flexibly mobile group.

The Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation & the Nepal Tourism Board {NTB} had given the green signal & agreed to support the program. The symposium had tried to swoop in at least 200 representatives of international travel and tour operators, airlines & journalists of international travel magazines.

Today, Nepal's LGBT community are all pumped up with excitement & the support it is receiving from the government, especially after the 2007 Supreme Court ruling that guaranteed their rights. Any future upcoming symposiums, they say, makes a statement that honors and respects the rights of sexual minorities which has come a long way in Nepal in context to democratic practices. And rightly so feels EncountersNepal.com, a well known brand for the outdoors & challenging adventures in the country. This is the worlds oldest known community since ancient times where LGBTs factually first stole the limelight. This goes back to a time when Alexander the Great of Greece almost ruled the whole world & when he reached the shores of India and battled with King Porus, he had captured an exquisite gay named Kalikanta & was so attracted to this gay that he appointed Kalikanta in the most sought after position of those times as head of his concubines with all the royal facilities imagined. Retroactively, we need to accept the fact that LGBTs were also the off-springs of a divine mother like any one of us and feel the same emotional pains as anyone of us would feel & it is their divine right to be allowed to co-exist in peace & harmony with all the other communities found in Nepals social fabric. Should international LGBTs decide to travel to Nepal through EncountersNepal.com, we shall give them a special welcome reception befitting that of any other human being; & this welcoming shall be unique in its entire process for the promotion of Nepals tourism sector.

Marrying according to Buddhist Tradition

The ritual starts with solemn moments of chanting by Buddhist Monks. A celestial mixture of traditional blessing and well-wishing evokes a special energy. The ritual ends with the howling of Tibetan Drums and the blowing of colossal horns by Lamas. The couple is now joined as one. Suddenly, Panche Baja (the combination of five traditional mountain instruments) erupts with a symphony of sound, commencing an evening of fun and entertainment. A group of males decked in traditional Nepalese dress move their body agilely with the rhythm easing everyone to join the dance floor. Flower bouquets, gifts and warm congratulations keep you admired as if you were a celebrity. Dont worry! Your distinguished guests will be treated special with marvelous drinks and scrumptious food presented in an artistic array of colorful dishes. All of these will be certified and documented by authentic tourism organizations of Nepal.

Marrying according to Hindu Tradition

Modern Hinduism has evolved some of its own wedding traditions such as the wedding Janti and the Hindu wedding games. Some popular games, such as hiding the shoes have even been glamorized by Bollywood movies. Janti refers to the procession of the groom riding on a horseback, accompanied by family members, relatives and friends. The groom sits on a decorated white horse, resplendent in his wedding attire. A Janti is an occasion of much revelry and you can often see the relatives of the groom dancing with gay abandon on the streets as they proceed towards the wedding venue. Right from selecting the horse (white mare), choosing a brass band party and deciding on which tunes would they play (and that can include all the Nepali traditional music or the latest Bollywood musical hits as well as the groom's favorite ones with beautiful Nepali transgender dancing and blessing the couple), as you leave all the worries to encounters NEPAL Another important wedding tradition that has stood the test of time is the use of Henna for adorning the hands and feet. Pertaining to ladies, the art of applying Henna, also known as Mehendi goes back as far as 5000 years ago, but you can see still see eager women- young and old get henna applied to their hands during the occasion of a wedding ceremony. Even through Henna is green in color and appearance, when applied on the skin; it takes an orange- reddish hue. These days one can even go for fanciful Mehendi colors in gold, silver and black.
