Mt. Everest or Chomolungma in Tibetan in Chinese is written and pronounced as Qumolungma the great mother, as this world’s number one mountain stands more impressive. Majestically soaring in a sheer 3,000 m. from the Rongbuk Glacier, it towers above the Tibetan Plateau. From side the first British Expedition in the 1920’s and 30’s came and explored. The Chinese mountaineers first climbed in 1960, since the North Ridge has more chances of reaching the top then the south free from the hazard of Ice fall difficulties so most of the expeditions has climbed numerous times and its getting more popular from this side not only for its challenge to the top because of its smooth assist as one can drive all the way to Everest Base Camp from North side and one can take a Yak caravan all the way to Advance Base Camp or Third Camp at 6,600m. Gaining 8000m is demanding but it is the last 848m that are the most difficult.
Encounter Nepal will run this expedition during both the pre & post monsoon periods, Month of May offers the greatest opportunity reaching the summit, after acclimatizing in April and the early part of May.
Experience Required: To climb Mt. Everest people should be of high-altitude experience of 6,500m and above if possible, and be technically competent people with basic ‘know how’ and little knowledge in mountaineering requiring more than one Sherpa guide at extra cost, as this will be the expeditions for non experienced and as well for professional climbers. Itinerary List| Day 01 : | Arrive Kathmandu.1,300m.
On arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport you will be received by our staff and will escort you to the Hotel, where our Sherpa guide will give you a brief orientation of the Hotel, Kathmandu, Expeditions, do's and don't and other related information that you might require while in Nepal and in Tibet. | | Day 02-03 : | A day in Kathmandu.
These two days will be a busy day preparation for the expeditions on packing and paperwork’s or for hiring of equipment and other necessary items for the trip. | | Day 04 : | Drive to Zhangmu 1,800m.
Morning drive leads to north east of Kathmandu towards Tibet at Khasa or Zhangmu,
on the way stopping at Kodari a Nepal border town for visa formalities and across the Friendship Bridge into Tibet. Depending how long the journey takes on the first day overnight stop in Zhangmu. | | Day 05 : | Drive to Old Tingri 4,400m. 5-6 hrs.
The driving journey first leads on the winding road above Zhangmu through the beautiful forest of rhododendron and pines trees, soon after the climb reaching at Nyalam town where the tree line disappears as this place is the starting point of Tibetan plateau.
From here the drive continues on the flat plateau reaching at Laylung-la pass at 5,050m a grand spot with views of snow capped peaks that borders with Nepal, Gauri-Shanker, Melungatse, Number, Dorje Lakpa, Shishapangma and Langtng. From here another 2-3 hours of good drive reaches you at Old Tinri for the overnight stop. The first view of Mt.Everest can be seen from here and as well of Mt. Cho Oyu. | | Day 06 : | At Old Tingri for acclamatisation.
A day at Old Tingri for acclamatisation or short hike around. | | Day 07 : | Drive to Everest Base Camp.
Arriving at Everest Base camp, on the way passing over the Pang La 5,000 m) which gives great views of the route and the entire North East Face of Everest. The road then descends to the foot of the Rongbuk valley and before reaching base camp, stopping at the Rongbuk Monastery. | | Day 08-09 : | At Base Camp.
Rest Day and preparation for the climb sorting out gear, food and equipment.
Packing loads for the yaks to go towards Advanced Base Camp, which is 22 km up the valley, requiring two days to reach. There are easy walks to do back to the Monastery and towards the mountain, but rest is the key to acclimatization at this point. | | Day 10-11 : | Trek towards Advance Base Camp or III Camp at 6,600m.
Load the yaks and head to ABC. There are fantastic views of the North Face of Everest if the clouds permit and then later in the day before reaching intermediate camp. We will make camp by the river at the half way point. We set off early in the morning with the yaks on the second day to allow plenty time in the afternoon to set up a rudimentary camp for the evening, of course to be finished the next day. | | Day 12-42 : | Ascent of Mount Everest.
Here we have reserved 31 days for the ascent to summit these thirty days allows the climbers to acclmatise well by moving up and down the mountain as they establish number of high camps for the summit bid, from the Advance Base Camp following the moraine towards the North Col. and cross the glacier easily to its foot. About 1,000 ft / 300 m of fairly deep snow climbing leads to the Col at 7,066 m. The Col forms a fairly wide ridge which has ample room for tents. This will be Camp I. To the south, the Col rises to become the North Ridge. This is straight-forward snow climbing, eventually steeping into rocky shelves and short buttresses. A second camp will be placed at around 7,700 m.
The route to the North East Ridge leading from the top of the North Ridge to the summit will depend on conditions prevailing at the time. We will either follow the North Ridge in it’s entirely to the crest of the North-North-East Ridge or make a rising traverse to the right to reach the ridge at a higher point. Our last camp will be placed at around 8,300 m.
The final section of the climb takes in the notorious first and second steps. These are short, but abrupt rises on the North-East Ridge, which will provide testing climbing at extreme altitude! It was on the second step that Mallory and Irvine were last seen before they disappeared in 1924. Once this has been ascended, the ridge leads more easily to the summit. | | Day 43 : | At Advance Base Camp or Camp III.
Yaks caravan arrive at ABC to return to base camp. All loads must be carried down at this time, this includes garbage. | | Day 44 : | Retrace the journey to Base Camp.
Descend to base camp and start to organize departure from Everest. | | Day 45 : | At Base Camp.
Preparation to leave the Everest area with packing the gear and equipment and clean up of the Base Camp, and prepare every thing for an early departure the next morning. | | Day 46 : | Drive to Zhangmu.
Retrace the journey back to Zhangmu via Old Tingri and Nylam town. | | Day 47 : | Drive back to Kathmandu.
After getting through the Immigration with the visa and permits continue drive towards the Friendship Bridge, on reaching Nepal frontier at Kodari again going through the immigration formalities, and then continue 3-4 hours of good drive on the scenic highway to Kathmandu. On reaching Kathmandu check into respective Hotel after a long mesmerising adventure. | | Day 48-49 : | Free day in Kathmandu.
Free day at leisure for individual activities (Guided Tour, Mountain flight on request) if you have more time before your journey back home you can do the extension trip White Water Rafting and Wildlife in the famous Chitwan National Park for few days.
